Never taken an airport train before? They are usually the fastest, cheapest way between an airport and the city — here is how they work, anywhere in the world.
What an "airport express" actually is
It is a train that links the airport with the city centre. Some cities run a dedicated premium express (for example London's Heathrow Express); others use a regular metro or commuter line as the main airport link. Our guide for each city tells you which, and which is the better deal.
Finding the train at the airport
Follow the rail or "trains to city" signs from arrivals. The station is usually inside or directly connected to the terminal. Each of our train guides says exactly which terminal the train serves.
Buying a ticket
Use the station machines or counter, or the operator's official app. We link only to official operators — never resellers. See buying airport train tickets.
On board
Keep your ticket for the exit gate, mind your luggage, and check the final stop is the city station you want. For bags, see luggage on airport trains.
Then decide if it is right for you: airport train vs taxi.
